Step Up for Students January 2007

Nick Loeb has raised $20,000 for Step Up For Students, which will be used to send 800 students to private school.

Loeb will in turn host a cocktail party for members of the public at his home Feb. 22 from 7 p.m to 9 p.m to introduce Step Up For Students to the local political, social and business community as part of a continuing effort to better education in Florida.

Loeb, president of Loeb Investments, has immersed himself in local politics through support for Kids in Distress as well as through membership in several boards including Boca Raton Education Television, The Children’s Coalition and the School Choice Fund Board.

“I was fortunate enough to have had the luxury of attending a private school that provided the best fit for my educational needs,” Loeb said. “However, I have grown to realize that it shouldn’t be a luxury, and all parents should have the power to choose which school best provides a suitable education for their children.”

Step Up For Students was created in 2001 to improve Florida’s K-12 educational system by creating and sustaining affordable educational options for low-income families and their children. By empowering parents to choose the education that best meets their child’s learning needs, parents become consumers of their child’s education.

“Where a child receives his or her education shouldn’t be determined by zoning,” Loeb said. “Parents know what is best for their children and it is ideal that we empower them with the ability to choose.”

As parents begin to shop for the best academic educational setting for their child, the level of education for all students will rise as schools – public and private – as they will become more productive in an effort to maintain and enroll new children.
